Baqueira Beret is Spain’s largest and most respected ski resort, set in the Val d’Aran in the Catalan Pyrenees. The food is a genuine highlight – Aranese and Catalan cuisine in stone-built valley villages gives the après scene a distinctly Spanish flavour. Sierra Nevada sits near Granada in Andalusia and is one of the most southerly ski resorts in Europe. The sunshine and proximity to the coast give it a unique feel – you can ski in the morning and be in Granada’s historic centre by the afternoon. The resort works well for beginners and families, with dedicated children’s areas and affordable lessons. It’s also a natural add-on to a wider Spain trip for anyone who wants to mix skiing with culture and warmth.

Baqueira Beret’s valley villages – Vielha and Arties in particular – have tapas bars, wine cellars, and Romanesque churches that feel a world away from a typical ski resort. Both Spanish resorts are approachable for newer skiers. Sierra Nevada’s purpose-built base area has good ski schools and gentle terrain close to the lifts. At Baqueira Beret, the Beret sector is specifically designed for beginners and families, with wide, spacious runs and a dedicated teaching area. Lesson and equipment costs are generally lower than in the Alps, and the relaxed Spanish pace means there’s less pressure to rack up mileage.

Sierra Nevada is smaller but offers good skiing with exceptional sunshine. Neither matches the Alps on sheer scale, but the experience – food, culture, atmosphere – is distinctly appealing.
For Baqueira Beret, fly into Toulouse or Barcelona – it’s roughly three to four hours by road from either. For Sierra Nevada, fly into Granada or Málaga. WeSki packages include transfers, so you don’t need to arrange anything separately.
The season runs from mid-December to mid-April. January through March offers the most reliable conditions. Late season at Sierra Nevada can be particularly pleasant, with warm sunshine and spring snow.
Spain offers good value compared to the western Alps. Baqueira Beret sits at the higher end of Spanish prices but is still competitive with French or Austrian resorts. Sierra Nevada is generally more affordable, particularly for food, drink, and accommodation.
Sierra Nevada is ideal for this – Granada is just 30 minutes away. Baqueira Beret is more remote, but the Val d’Aran’s villages offer rich culture, excellent dining, and Romanesque architecture without needing to leave the valley.

We booked a late minute skiing trip to Morzine through we ski. We looked at booking the trip ourselves but could get anywhere near the price quoted by we ski. The company was excellent and we had no problems at all from start to finish. I would definitely use them to book another weekend skiing trip.
