Équipements haut de gammeCranmore Mountain Resort sits right on the edge of North Conway, one of the most popular and celebrated towns in New Hampshire, in the United States. Skiing here dates back to 1938, making it one of the oldest resorts in the country, and a place where American recreational skiing was effectively born. It was the home of Austrian ski legend Hannes Schneider, the father of modern ski instruction, who built his famous school here after fleeing Nazi-occupied Austria. That heritage, and the welcoming, family-run feel that's carried through the decades, is a big part of what makes Cranmore special. Being a short walk from town helps too, since you can ski sunny, sheltered slopes with the White Mountains laid out around you, then wander into North Conway to enjoy the pleasures of this charming mountain town.
Once you’re on the pistes, you’ll find that Cranmore is a compact, friendly mountain. Sunny and south-facing, its slopes catch plenty of light and stay sheltered when the weather turns elsewhere in the valley, and for a mountain of its size, the terrain is nicely balanced. Beginners get a dedicated learning area and gentle greens to start on, intermediates have the run of classic New England cruisers winding through the trees, and strong skiers can seek out steep pitches, glades, and a few proper mogul runs. Snow comes from a mix of New England's natural falls and snowmaking that blankets every trail, so cover stays reliable through a season that runs from early December into early April.
There's plenty to round out a holiday here. North Conway has an easy, lived-in character all of its own, and the White Mountain National Forest wraps around the valley in snow-covered peaks and ridges, giving a constant backdrop to your days on the mountain. It has independent shops, a proper main street, craft breweries, and a growing restaurant scene, and because New Hampshire charges no sales tax, the valley's outlet stores are a real treat for shoppers, too. Back at the mountain there's more than skiing and snowboarding to enjoy, with a mountain coaster, a giant swing, and a zip line at the Adventure Park, plus floodlit night skiing that keeps the day going after dark. All of this adds up to a resort with plenty of good skiing and full, easygoing days around it.
