Norway’s ski scene is calm, scenic, and straightforward. Think quiet forested trails, open plateaus with big views, and towns that sit right by the lifts. Distances are short, prices are sensible, and getting from the airport to the mountains is usually simple. Snow sticks around for a long season, pistes are well kept, and lift queues are rare. Beginners have gentle starter areas and clear step-ups to tougher runs. Advanced skiers can dip into glades, link long blues across the hill, and find steeper sections when they want a challenge. Night-skiing under lights is common, and most base areas are small enough to cross in a few minutes. Away from the slopes, expect cozy cafés, bakeries, and the odd spa or pool. The pace is unhurried, the setup is practical, and everything you need tends to be close by.
Trysil is Norway’s top family resort. It’s the country’s largest ski area with dedicated children’s zones, quality ski schools, and a relaxed pace that works well for younger skiers. Geilo is another strong family option, with a traditional village feel, toboggan runs, and plenty of off-slope activities like dog sledding and snowshoeing to fill the non-ski days.
Hemsedal has Norway’s liveliest après scene – the ski-in village comes alive at weekends with multi-level bars and live music. It’s a popular choice for groups who want solid skiing by day and a buzzy atmosphere after. Trysil also has a good social scene around the Turistsenter base area, though it’s more laid-back than Hemsedal.
Norway’s resorts tend to be gentler than the Alps, which makes them naturally well-suited to newer skiers. Trysil has some of the best beginner infrastructure, with nursery slopes on multiple sides of the mountain and a well-run ski school. Hafjell, close to Lillehammer, is another good pick – it hosted events at the 1994 Winter Olympics and has a strong ski school with wide, well-groomed runs.
Voss is known as Norway’s extreme sports capital, with freeskiing and off-piste opportunities in the surrounding mountains. Hemsedal also offers strong off-piste terrain across three peaks, with guided tours available. Both resorts suit confident skiers looking for something beyond groomed runs.
Yes. Norway’s resorts offer wide, uncrowded slopes with reliable snow from November through to April. The ski areas are smaller than the mega-resorts in France or Austria, but you’ll rarely queue for a lift – and the scenery is hard to beat.
Fly into Oslo, then transfer by road or rail. Trysil is around two and a half hours from Oslo, Hemsedal around three hours, and Geilo is on the Oslo–Bergen railway. WeSki packages include transfers, so getting there is covered.
Norway is generally pricier than Eastern Europe or Andorra, but comparable to much of the Alps for on-slope costs. Eating and drinking out can be expensive, so self-catering accommodation is a popular way to manage the budget.
The season runs from late November to early May in some resorts. January and February offer the most reliable snow and the longest days start stretching out from March, when conditions are often at their best.
Very much so. Trysil, Geilo, and Hafjell are all well set up for families, with dedicated children’s areas, ski schools, and a range of off-slope activities. The quieter slopes and relaxed pace make Norway a great alternative to busier Alpine resorts.

I usually book flights, transfers, hotel, ski rental and lift passes myself but this year used WeSki for a trip to Morzine. It was so much easier. Everything worked perfectly - transfers arrived on time and there was plenty of feedback throughout the whole process giving you confidence the holiday would go smoothly.
A really useful service that is so much easier to use than other 'all-inclusive' sites. It nicely bridges the gap between a travel agent and booking the trip yourself online. I will use WeSki every time I go skiing from now on.
We booked a late minute skiing trip to Morzine through we ski. We looked at booking the trip ourselves but could get anywhere near the price quoted by we ski. The company was excellent and we had no problems at all from start to finish. I would definitely use them to book another weekend skiing trip.
Seamless experience from start to finish. I was spending ages trying to sort out a weekend break and managed to do it with we ski in minutes and for the same price as booking it all up yourself. Flight, transfer and accommodation was all as expected and faultless.
