Štrbské Pleso is Slovakia’s best pick for families. It’s a compact, high-altitude resort with gentle slopes, good ski schools, and a peaceful lakeside setting. The nearby Tatralandia water park is a big draw for families with children – it’s just a short drive from the slopes and open year-round. Jasná Nízke Tatry also works well for families, with dedicated children’s zones and night skiing on a floodlit piste.
Slovakia is a great place to learn, with lower lesson costs than the Alps and uncrowded slopes. Štrbské Pleso has the gentlest terrain, with wide nursery areas near the base. Jasná’s north face has broad, well-groomed beginner runs, and the resort’s size means you can progress onto longer blue and red runs as your confidence grows. Tatranská Lomnica has good beginner pistes in the lower section, though its upper terrain suits more experienced skiers.
Jasná is the clear choice here. It’s Slovakia’s largest resort with over 50km of marked runs on both sides of Mount Chopok, plus outstanding off-piste terrain – the resort has hosted rounds of the World Freeride Tour. Tatranská Lomnica adds high-altitude drama, with a steep black run from Lomnické sedlo and freeriding opportunities near the summit. Together, the two resorts cover a satisfying range for confident skiers.
Slovakia offers some of the best value skiing in Europe. Ski passes, food, drink, and accommodation cost significantly less than in the Alps, yet the lift infrastructure is modern and well-maintained. The GoPass system covers all three main resorts on a single pass, which keeps things simple and good value if you want to explore. Self-catering apartments and mountain pensions are widely available and offer excellent quality for the price.
Yes. Jasná in particular rivals many mid-sized Alpine resorts for terrain quality and lift infrastructure. The High Tatra resorts add variety with dramatic scenery and high-altitude runs. Slovakia won’t match the mega-resorts on piste kilometres, but the skiing is varied and the value is exceptional.
Fly into Poprad, which has direct budget flights from the UK. Tatranská Lomnica and Štrbské Pleso are about 15–20 minutes from the airport, and Jasná is around 45 minutes away. Krakow in Poland is an alternative gateway, about three hours by road. WeSki packages include transfers.

We booked a late minute skiing trip to Morzine through we ski. We looked at booking the trip ourselves but could get anywhere near the price quoted by we ski. The company was excellent and we had no problems at all from start to finish. I would definitely use them to book another weekend skiing trip.
